Happy Birthday Tanner!!!

Happy Birthday Tanner!! Eleven years ago the cutest little boy was born. He was eager to make his way into the world with labor from start to finish taking less than two hours. (Thankfully) Ever since then he has been on the go.
I love Tanner's imagination. He loves to build things with Legos (you name it he can probably build it) he writes short stories and books, and is constantly looking for ways to build different things. He is infatuated with the Titanic and everything about it. He asked for a Titanic birthday cake which he helped decorate. He loves to golf, play football, and shoot some hoops. He has a sweet personality and would do anything for anyone and while he doesn't do all the things we ask him the first time or even the third time he is a great kid with a lot of potential and I love him with all my heart!! Happy Birthday T!!

I Believe I Can Fly

Tanner wanted to take some friends down to Ogden and go indoor skydiving for his birthday party this year. I guess the comment from the boys summed up the day, "That was the best birthday party ever!" It really was super fun. Just watching the boys fly was worth the money and time spent to go down. They absolutely loved it and all of them picked up on the flying. Tanner is a natural at it. He's did really well both times he tried it. The boys also went miniature golfing, played arcade games, and did the bumper cars. We ate pizza, had cupcakes, and luckily the restaurant didn't serve mountain dew or else they really would have been jumping off the wall. Tanner's good friend who moved from Grace lives in Ogden and ditched school to come join the party. I think this will be a birthday party to remember!

Kyrie is finally done playing basketball. I have enjoyed watching her play. To say that she is aggressive is an understatement. I am proud of her and her team as they took third place in a very hard league. Way to go sis!

Grandma took all the cousins to Disney on Ice. (Thanks grandma!) What a good time they had! They were all so cute in their
princess dresses. They loved the show especially when the princessess were on the ice. We went to Erin's house afterwards to celebrate one of the cousins birthdays. The girls all love playing together and get along really well. We were staying the night with them and it was crazy trying to get all of the cousins to go to bed! What a fun weekend. We love cousin get togethers!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year! We got our condo in Park City and my parents, sister, and my brother and his family came up for a week and partied! (We really are not big partiers but had a great time anyways). We played games, swam in the jacuzzis (it was so cold, you had to keep dunking your head under water so the icicles would melt) went to Salt Lake and looked at the lights, went to a couple of museums.
It was crazy as 15 people crammed into a 2 bedroom condo (is that against fire code) but we made it work and everyone got along (most of the time)
We even had two extra's for Thanksgiving dinner. My sister's roommate and her brother.
Our family went skiing for two days. We put the little girls in ski school and let me tell you, they were so stinking cute!! Their skiis were so tiny! Jacie did really well and could ski by herself and Karlie had to have a little help but she loved it anyways and was mad when the lifts closed.
It was a great week (even though we missed Aunt Chelsea) and so fun to have my family around me for a week!

Here is a glimpse of what we did for Halloween festivities around here.
I did a really fun party for Kyrie and Tanner's friends where we had an eight course meal. All funky halloween foods of course. Anyone for some Bloody Mary soup? Of course there were the costumes: Kyrie was Alice in Wonderland, Tanner was a werewolf, Jacie was a purple butterfly princess, and Karlie was the cutest strawberry shortcake ever. We love Halloween at our house!

I am finally sitting down to take a breather and update our blog. I still am not spending the time I need to make it great but this will have to do. We have been so busy with getting kids back in school, harvest, children in two different sports and numerous other things on the "list" its been crazy. But I keep telling myself "What would I do with time to spare?" Lots of stuff!!
Oh well. I love being a mom and seeing all the fun and interesting things my children are doing. They are growing up before my very eyes and although some days are a bit much, I wouldn't trade it for anything! They are awesome. I must also say that I have a great husband who tries to help when he can. He is wonderful and I am very blessed to have him in my life! Here is just a preview of some of the pictures I actually did take this fall!

First Day of School

Wow, could it be? The first day of school already? It always gets here way to soon. I am not a mom who loves to send her to children to school. I like them with me, although I would never dream about home schooling! Kyrie started Junior High this year! It is so true when people say that they grow up fast.
Tanner is in 5th grade and I put Jacie and Karlie in preschool this year. Both are having lots of fun. I sometimes get sad thinking that I should have a 3rd grader too. Oh well, maybe she is in school learning too. Here are the cutest kids ever!

Jacie Turns 5!!

It was so fun to have a five year old again. They think they are so grown up. Jacie wanted to have a Princess and the Frog party. She invited friends over and had a fun princess party and then we had a family party. She even got to have a special day with grandma Christensen in Pocatello. Grandma took her shopping and out to eat at her favorite restaurant (Red Lobster). I heard they had a great time!
I just want to list the top five things I love about Jacie:
1. She loves shopping-just loves it. She is fun to take places
2. She is so sweet- just a loving little daughter who gives good kisses and great hugs
3. She loves to color and draw- She will be getting a ream of paper for Christmas. She is good at it too!
4. She loves to sing- she always sings and makes little videos. I just wish she wasn't so shy!
5. She is just happy, fun, and beautiful

Tanner Plays Football!

I've never seen a child with a love for football like Tanner has. I think he loves football more than life itself. We didn't want him to play at all (he is still on the small side) but gave in when his friend begged him to play. I wish I could always remember how excited he was to put on his pads for the first time. He had to show them to everyone! I think he even wanted to sleep in them. He didn't care if he even played at all. For the first few games he didn't play a whole lot but the more confident he became the better he became and by the end of the season he was playing offense and defense. His last game of the season he caught a 50 yard pass and ran it in for a touchdown and recovered a fumble. It was so fun to watch him play. I look forward to watching my "number 1" playing next year.

I AM proud to be an American. I am so blessed to be able to live in this country and enjoy the freedoms and abundances that we have. I think too many times we take these things for granted. I was reading a newspaper article today and it was about a third world country in Africa. The infant mortality rate was extremely high, their shacks were built on garbage, and they did not have running water or toilet facilities. Poverty lied within every doorstep and their futures were uncertain. Stops and makes you think a little and really appreciate what you have.
I am grateful we are not at war on our own soil and I love that there are men and women who are giving up their lives to maintain our rights and other countries rights.

Karlie has been sick every 2-6 weeks since she was six months old with various illnesses. Fevers reaching scary numbers (106 was the highest), seizure, and has just been miserable. We finally decided to get her tonsils out and, knock on wood, she hasn't been too sick since!

Remembering Grandma C

A great lady has gone to hold hands with Allie. June Orr Christensen passed away last week. What a blessing. She was 93.
She left a long lasting legacy of love and a rather large posterity! We had her funeral yesterday. It was a wonderful service with beautiful music and heartfelt words of love from grandchildren. The Relief Society provided a wonderful meal and as Kyrie said, "This is what grandma C would have fed us." Ham, rolls, funeral potatoes, jello, salad, and dessert! What a great cook she was.
It seems like everyone's memory of grandma consisted of her saying "Come Visit Again" when anyone left her home, and she would stand at the window waiving until they were gone. We are glad you don't have to suffer anymore grandma. We will miss you so much but we will Visit Again. Love to you

Merry Christmas

This is my favorite/least favorite time of year. I love the Christmas season. I love everything it encompasses. The giving, the baking, friends, family, remembering the birth of our Savior, service, Christmas songs, decorating the tree, hot chocolate on cold nights and so much more.

But December 18th is still a hard day. My sweet little sis would have been seven. Crazy to think she was just three when she died.
We still miss her very much. The little girls always ask about her and the things she liked. Jacie is so much like her big sis. I just wish she could remember her.

In case you are wondering about the My Little Buttercup song before the Christmas songs here is why. The Three Amigos was her favorite movie and she would make me sing it to her (with actions) every night before bedtime. She would laugh and laugh, probably at me because I was such a dork. How I miss her. The Kenny G is on there too because her grandma would play his Christmas songs to get her to take a nap when she was at her house. Funny all the little reminders you have of loved ones.

I hope this holiday season brings everyone joy. We should all find something to be joyful about. We all have trials and problems, some are harder than others, but everyone has them. Try to find the joy in life and it will make you just a little bit happier.

My joy is still my family. I love to just sit and look at them. They bring much laughter and love to me. I want them to know how much I do love them and how much I'm glad they are mine.

California Dreamin

We needed a change of scenery and decided to take our yearly family vacation to California again. We got our condo in Newport Beach and flew down. We also wanted a vacation where it was just that, a vacation. No running around ragged trying to do everything and see all the sights. I think we accomplished just that. Besides the two days at Disneyland, we didn't have an agenda. All we wanted to do was go to the beach, swim, do a little shopping, eat some great food, and spend time together as a family.
We did all that and nothing much else. The beach was great, a little windy, but fun. We even had a flock of seagulls chase us down for the snacks we were eating.
We ate at great restaurants and of course hit Ruby's Diner. Love to eat there!
We loved going to the pet store at the mall where we got to hold all the cute doggies. Jacie wants one so bad (all she wants for Christmas)
I found my happy place and wish I could go there every day. Our condo was just a 1/2 mile from the beach and so I would run down there and just enjoying running along some beautiful scenery!
It was just a wonderful week and although it is over before you want it to be, it didn't fly by. Can you grow potatoes in California?

p.s. The car is a Bentley. Even in the land where every other car is a luxury car, this one was sweet!!

Listen real close to Karlie when you see this video. We were on the big Ferris Wheel at California Adventures. It wasn't bolted down so when you would move it would sway back and forth. Totally freaked Tanner out which freaked Karlie out because she liked it until Tan started to scream like a girl (he does!) He screams and she goes, "We're gonna die!" So cute and funny

Disneyland

We only wanted to go to Disneyland for two days. Not a lot of time for two parks and a lot of rides. But, we didn't want to tire ourselves out. This trip is supposed to be relaxing! My mom flew over (because she is a Disneyland freak) and hinted really hard that she wanted to come.
We were happy to have her with us, especially Kyrie. She made reservations for us to eat at the Blue Bayou restaurant. That is the one you can see when you are on the Pirates of the Caribbean. That was a fun experience and the food was terrific! Definitely would eat there again. Thanks Grandma!
After lunch we decided it would be in our best interest to split into groups so we could ride the rides we wanted to. Grandma and Kyrie went together, Tanner and Kyle, and I got to take the little girls. It worked out great because Kyrie doesn't want to go on the "baby" rides!
The only thing that sucked was in the 2 1/2 hrs we separated I stood in line to see Tinkerbell and to meet the princesses. Those lines are sooooo longgggg! It was good for Karlie because she was asleep and got to get in a nap. It was cute when we met Terrance and Tinkerbell. Terrance wanted to wake Karlie up so he tried and failed and then gave her a pinecone as a gift for missing him.
The little girls love "It's a Small World" ride which they've named, "The Little People" ride.
One of my favorite things at Disney was when I found the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and got the girls princess makeovers. Jacie ate that up! She talked and talked and was so excited to get fairy sprinkles, pink hair, makeup and nails done. She was in her element! Karlie didn't quite know what to think but she was happy with the finished product. It brought tears to my eyes as I thought of another little princess who would have loved to get made over too.
The other favorite part of mine was the fireworks show. They were wonderful and made me teary eyed too. Set to beautiful Christmas music and more fireworks that we see in ten years. Worth the price of admission just for those.
Disneyland is really the Happiest Place on Earth and we love to go.

We had a great time trick or treating this year despite the wind being a little strong and we couldn't wear our witch hats, Tanner biffed it in the road, Karlie and Jacie received stomach aches after they snuck their loot into the playroom and devoured most
of it in one shot, and Kyrie, being a big 6th grader, decided she was old enough to go out with a group of friends instead of with us. Ahhh life. Gotta love it. Happy Halloween!

Yeah potatoes are done! We can now all breath a little easier now that the little taters are in the cellars.

Another great thing about potates being over is that we get to see our dad and husband a little more. The kids still had a week off from school so we decided to go on a short vacation. We were planning on going to Park City until mother nature blessed us with snow and so I said no way and we headed to Las Vegas because it was WARM! (Not ready for the cold weather yet)

We had a great time. Jacie could move there and be happy. She kept saying over and over that she likes Las Vegas. We stayed in Excalibur and Circus Circus. We played all the games and won lovely stuffed animals. Saw little baby lions at the MGM (so stinkin cute) went to Madame Tousauds wax musuem, walked miles and miles and just had a good time.

Oh and did I mention that Karlie was sick again. Poor baby. Sick every 2 weeks now with her fevers. But she still had a fun when she was doped up on her meds!

It was just great to be with each other as a family again.

Potato Harvest!

I can hardly believe it's that time of year again. Seems like they just planted the crops!

I was feeling quite nostlagic the other day and how I was glad to be an American and how I admire the American farmer.
I think they have a thankless job. There is a lot to farming that most people don't know about. I was very naive when I
married Kyle. I just thought farmers played in the dirt! I have come to learn about how much they need to know from marketing, finance, repairs, economics etc.... the technology is amazing (when you can afford it!) We have tractors that will steer by themselves. It is very fascinating at times and I think it is a little sexy that my husband knows how to do so many things!

So I thought it would be fun to showcase potato harvest. I know I don't take the greatest of pictures but I hope you'll get a little
glimpse of our life on the farm!

I thought I'd add a few more thoughts on Jacie. It isn't very fun to have a birthday fall on Sunday so the day has been pretty boring for her. We had her family party after church. She got a lot of presents (spoiled) and she wanted a chocolate and strawberry cake. (We got back from camping late last night and I didn't have time to make a fun cake (gasp..) but she liked it. She expecially liked the chocolate covered strawberries! I interviewed her and asked her a few of her favorite things. Here it goes:

Today my sweet little chickadee is 4!! I have waited for this day for so long! It has been a while since I've had a four year old
in our house. I guess you could say it is a big milestone for me. Allie never got to be four so I was just crossing my fingers hoping she would turn four, like turning 3 was a curse or something.
They change so much from year to year and I can see the changes in Jacie. She acts more grown up and is funny as ever! She has a weird little sense of humor! She loves animals and wishes she could have a little dog to haul around and dress up. She always asks, "For my birthday I want a puppy", and the crappy parents that we are, say "No". It doesn't stop her from asking though. She loves to dress up and she loves music. She especially loves Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas and boy you should see her dance....actually we hope you don't because there would be a lot to explain!
She is my buddy and we love to go shopping together. Her and Karlie are best buddies too and they like to play and have fun. Sometimes they start talking to each other in their own little language and they'll laugh and laugh like they know what each other is saying.
She is a sweetheart and I love her so much!!!! I hope you have a good birthday Jacie!

1st Day of School- Sigh.....

I am not one of those moms who cry when their children get on the bus for the first day of school but I almost did this morning as they got on that little yellow bus carrying them off to the jungle. I can't believe summer is OVER!! I cried for that. I didn't want summer to be over so it was sad when I saw the reality of summer being gone when they stepped on that bus.
I like having my kids with me at home and being able to go do things with them. Oh, and I miss Kyrie as my babysitter too!
Oh well, It is time I guess. The morning was crazy as the kids got up late (alarm didn't go off) and we were taking these pictures as the bus was just about to our house. I thought the kids looked great and I wish them and everyone else a great school year.

Cakes

The first two cakes are my fair cakes. I always wanted to carve a fish so I did. I need to work on the mouth but I liked how everything else looked. I love using my airbrush! The other cake is a clutch, shopping bag, and box. I have to say that this was a rushed project because I didn't have time to do it nice and neat. Oh well.
The third cake is a cake I just did for a wedding. Thought it looked good. I have one more wedding cake to go and then I am done for a while! (I will miss making all that money though)

Fair Week

A couple of weeks ago it was fair week here in Idaho. Fair week is awesome because I don't have to cook all week! Oh and we get to do some fun stuff too. The kids were in the kid parade with Kyrie riding on the clogging float, Tanner being Indiana Jones on his bike, and the little girls driving their barbie car as rodeo queens. They won 3rd place for best costume! They were making me laugh so hard because Jacie had a little too much fun driving. She was swerving and spinning cookies and I think trying to earn points for how many people she hit!
I was just thinking that I should take pictures of all the stuff the kids enter in the fair. (Funny how good at coming up with things after the fact) They all did really well. Taking firsts in all but a couple. I entered a couple of cakes and won first too. Fair week does make me sad because once its over summer seems to be over and school is just around the bend...

Triathlon

On August 1st I completed a goal of mine that I've had for a long time. I competed and FINISHED a triathlon. It was just a sprint triathlon but tough just the same. It was a reverse TRI where I ran 3.1 miles, biked 12.4 miles, and swam 500 yards. I finished in my desired time but if I had a road bike I know I would have been much faster. Mountain bikes and road bikes are not the same!
I won't say it was fun but I had a great sense of accomplishment when I finished. I definately want to try again!

Summer of Fun

We capped off the Arizona trip by returning to Utah and heading off to Lagoon for a day of fun, to celebrate Ryan's birthday, hang out with famiy, and to remember a sweet little girl who we miss so much.

15 year high school reunion

I can't believe it has been 15 years since I graduated from high school but I found myself attending our 15th year reunion. It was so fun to see everyone and how they have changed (or haven't!) and their cute little families. I miss my friends from the good ol days and it was really good to be in their company again.

Visit to Arizona

We went on our yearly migration to Arizona after the fourth. We had a blast and none of us wanted to come home!
The kids love to spend time with grandma and grandpa and their cousins. I just wish I was better at taking pictures!
One of the highlights of the trip was when a big black bear wandered into grandpa's yard to drink out of their sprinkler.

and we decided to go up and take the kids to it. Karlie didn't like it

Karlie turned 2!! She was really into her birthday this year. Excited to rip open her presents and blow out her candles.
We got her and Jacie a Barbie jeep for both of their birthdays. They love it and look so cute driving it around together!

Baby Kittens

We love baby kittens at our house. At one point a few weeks ago we had 10 of them but saddly something has eaten all but 1
of them. The one that Karlie is "bowling" with (bowling or flinging would work to, she is a terror with them) is the only one we have left. We are sad but that is life in the country and we know there will be more.
We need the cats to catch mice so they have to be outdoors. (Just for all you peta people out there!) So here are some cute
pictures of the girls and their kittens.

Kyrie and Tanner are involved in the junior golf program and every week we go to a course around southeast Idaho and play. It takes about 3 hours so the girls and I have to come up with something to do while we wait for them to get done. Thank goodness for parks. They are free and fun!
